WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY
Drip faucets, open cabinets, and keep the heat on at least 60.
- Locate water shut-off valve now (at the end of each building) Be ready to turn the water off if you have a broken pipe. Less water less damage. The valve will turn off the entire building.
- Fill your jugs, buckets, or tub with some water to flush the toilet. The water could be shut down do to power outage.
- Your fireplace should be cleaned and checked prior to using it.
- Unplug sensitive electronics to avoid power surge
- Texting uses less battery than calling
- Have extension cords ready if you have a generator. Keep the generator away from openings in doors or windows. It should be a good distance away from the building to avoid carbon monoxide entering home.
- BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN USING CANDLES
STAY HOME and STAY INSIDE!!
Sidewalks may have ice on them that you can't see.
Driving is dangerous and ICE is more dangerous than snow.
Also keep in mind the ice/snow will delay the response time for emergencies. Don't make their job harder.
PRIOR TO THE BAD WEATHER
- Identify one room in your home to camp out in due to power outage. Cover windows with blankets and cover any drafts. Close the room off from the rest of the house
- Dress in layers
- Test your smoke detector
- Have fresh batteries and flashlights ready
- Keep everything charged - phones, tablets, power banks. Download movies or books for offline use.
- Fill your vehicles with gas
- Get cash in small bills if you have to purchase something
- Pick up prescriptions and keep a list of all medications
- Set your refrigerator to a colder setting to hold temp longer in a power outage
- Freeze a few water bottles to act as ice packs for power outage
- Keep a cooler ready to move food outside if needed and it's colder outside
- Keep yours and your pets items ready if you have to leave with sudden notice. (meds, leash, carrier, food)
Carriage Quarters has no control over power outages, low to zero water pressure. The city has been known to cut the water back to avoid damaged pipes throughout the city. Carriage Quarters can call a plumber if needed but can not control when they arrive - they will be very busy. Patience and understanding is appreciated
